O-Ring Seals
O-rings are one of the simplest and most effective seals ever invented: a loop of elastomer with an o-shaped cross-section.
O-rings are commonly made from viton, silicone, nitrile and neoprene; they are available in metric and standard sizes. O-rings are specified by the inside diameter and the cross-section diameter (thickness). The UK standard sizes are known as BS Sizes and range from BS001 to BS932.
They are the most commonly used machine seals and are also used for pump shafts and hydraulic cylinders.
Specials can also be supplied to order.
EPDM O-Rings
RAM stocks a range of standard size EPDM o-rings.
These o-rings are used in sealing and electrical insulation applications.
Neoprene O-Rings
RAM stocks a range of standard size neoprene o-rings.
These o-rings are commonly used in electrical installations and weather sealing applications. They are particularly suitable for use with water; be that salt or fresh water – although for drinking (potable) water it is better to use EPDM.
Nitrile O-Rings
RAM stocks a range of standard size nitrile o-rings.
Nitrile rubber is also known as Buna-N, Perbunan or NBR rubber.
Nitrile o-rings are used in the prescence of fats, oils, fuels and other liquids contaminated by these; they can also be used at a range of temperatures (-40ºC to +120ºC depending on grade).
Silicone O-Rings
RAM stocks a range of standard size silicone o-rings.
These o-rings are known for their chemical inertia and as such are useful in extreme environments; they are suitable for temperatures from -55ºC to +300ºC.
Due to their chemical stability they are useful in the pharmaceutical and food processing industries.
Viton O-Rings
RAM stocks a range of standard size viton o-rings.
The o-rings are used in the presence of aggressive chemicals, fuels and explosive gases.
