Pumping Gaskets

Gaskets for Pumps & Pumping Equipment

We supplies flexible seals for pump manufacture, pumping equipment, housing, and associated pipework.

Types of Pump Gaskets

The term ‘pump gasketing’ covers the whole gamut of applications and sealing materials: from hot and cold liquids, to high pressure and vacuum, to heat transfer applications. The list goes on, and each product requires suitable materials, sometimes even for different applications within the same pumping unit.

We have manufactured parts for the following types of pumps:

Air pumps, fuel pumps, boiler pumps, circulating pumps, centrifugal pumps, displacement pumps, oil pumps, pool pumps, solenoid pumps, hydraulic pumps, pneumatic pumps, gear pumps, reciprocating pumps, booster pumps, drum pumps, sump pumps, sanitary pumps, metering pumps, jet pumps, vacuum pumps, water pumps, and well pumps.

We can offer advice on pump design and specification, supply parts for pump manufacture, and offer replacement gaskets or bespoke one-off parts for breakdown and repair. Pump housing seals are supplied for new parts in large volume, or as replacement parts. We also supplies O-rings for mechanical seals and secondary leakage.

Packings Materials For Pumps

In addition to gaskets and seals, we also supply packing materials for pumps.

We can supply packings by Klinger, Rotatherm, Flexitallic, Chemstar, Isatherm, Thermoflon, Buramex, Buratex, Araflon, Aquistar, and Alchem; or supply equivilents to meet specifications.

Carbon and graphite packings have a wide temperature capability, they are difficult to degrade chemically and are low friction. Synthetic packings are used where non-carbon/graphite and non PTFE is required.

Cellulose fibres are still occasionally utilised today, although less so as modern materials last longer. Natural fibres provided for packings include flax, cotton, hemp, jute, lead and aluminium.

Fluid types In Pumping Applications

Pumps are commonly required to move the following liquids, and so it is important that the gasket or seal is specificed to the correct temperature, pressure, and chemical resistance rating.

• drinking water
• food pulp
• boiler feed water
• sea and brackish water
• hot water
• condensate
• lyes
• oils (synthetic and mineral)
• heated mineral oils
• heated synthetic oils
• heat transfer fluid
• compressed air
• gases
• viscous chemicals (e.g. isocyanate)

For more information on sealing materials and their chemical resistance, please see our help centre article on chemical compatibility.

Associates Parts: Valves & Pipe Work Flanges

We can manufacturer and supply gaskets and seals for the following valves, which are commonly used in pump manufacture.

Air release valves, control valves, check valves, ball valves, butterfly valves, gate valves, diaphragm valves, globe valves, plug valves, solenoid valves, motor valves, rotary valves, hydraulic valves, pneumatic valves, pinch valves, cryogenic valves, piston valves, needle valves, safety valves, water valves.

Pumps are commonly connected to pipe work and we can supply standard pipe gaskets, or custom pipe gaskets for non-standard flanges to specific internal and external diameter requirements.

Pump Gasket Certifications

We are apple to supply the following standards and certifications:

• Food Standards | FDA
• Potable Water | WRAS
• F.A.I.R. | First Article Inspection Report
• Material Batch and Traceability
• Certificate of Conformance

Pump Sealing Common Problems

Common problems encounted in pump sealing include: abrasion, secondary leakage, lubrication, stability under load, viscousness, and setting materials (such as crystallisation).

Pumping applications commonly have multiple related issues that needs to be considered when designing in the seals. The material fluid the pump is sealing against and the mechanical type of pump (e.g., centrifugal or reciprocating, shaft diameter, and horizontal or vertical mounting) will all bare on gasket and seal design and specification; as well as on the availability for any parts (such as packings and o-rings) for maintenance.

If you are having issues sealing, whether it be in the pump module itself (shaft seal, valve seal, packings) or within pipework, housing or extenuating machinery then we can help advise on possible solutions. We can provide advice on a huge range of materials, and supply small volumes for testing and one-off repair purposes. Issues in machinery can often be specific to each case, and depen on the pressures, workload and intention of your production.
